Dialer for Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO Phones on HyperOS and MIUI

Setting up The Auto Dialer as a dialer for Xiaomi phones comes down to three switches: the default phone app, Background autostart, and No restrictions in the app battery saver.

Dialer for Xiaomi business calling

The Auto Dialer gives Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO owners a phone app that knows who each caller is in sales terms: it takes the default calling role, works through a lead list from the handset's own SIM, and saves the outcome of every call to that lead. Xiaomi's own FAQ for the REDMI 17, read on 4 October 2026, lists it as shipping with HyperOS 3 on Android 16 and puts default apps behind a three-dot menu under Apps, a step many people miss. Older handsets run MIUI, where menus differ again. The second half of setup is Xiaomi's background control. Without autostart permission, a closed app may not be allowed to wake itself, and a callback alarm set for tomorrow morning can fail silently. Depending on the model and the region it was sold in, the built-in dialer is either Google's Phone app or Xiaomi's own; the steps below work for both.

Dialer for Xiaomi default phone app setting

  1. Open Settings and tap Apps.
  2. Tap the three-dot icon in the corner, then Other settings.
  3. Tap Default apps, then the phone or calling entry.
  4. Select The Auto Dialer and confirm.

That is the HyperOS route Xiaomi publishes; on MIUI the default apps entry may sit elsewhere under Apps, and the exact wording varies by version. The app also asks for the role on its own when first opened. For the general Android picture, including how to undo it, read changing the default dialer on Android.

Dialer for Xiaomi autostart and battery saver

Xiaomi treats background activity as a permission, so a dialer needs it granted explicitly. Three settings cover it:

vivo uses a similar permission model with different names; a team mixing brands can compare with vivo and iQOO background power settings. Samsung and OPPO have their own versions, covered in the guides to a dialer for Samsung and a dialer for OPPO. If a list still stops halfway, the general checks in fixing an auto dialer that stops apply to every Android brand.

Redmi and POCO handsets run the same Xiaomi software family, so the menus above apply to them. The table puts the whole job in order.

Dialer for Xiaomi on a property agent's phone

Round-number illustration; no customer data behind it.

A property agent in Jakarta works from a Redmi Note and gets around 50 portal enquiries a week. She imports them into The Auto Dialer, dials the new ones each morning, and promises callbacks for the evening. For the first few days the 7 pm reminders arrive only when she unlocks the phone, because Background autostart was off. After turning it on and setting No restrictions, the evening alarms ring on a locked screen, each with the buyer's last remark attached. Agents in the same position can read more in the dialer guide for real estate agents.

Dialer for Xiaomi limits

A Redmi or POCO phone places one SIM call at a time, and nothing in the software multiplies that. Teams expecting dozens of simultaneous calls need a cloud platform instead. A major HyperOS update can move or rename these menus, so open the autostart page again after one and confirm the switch is still on. Owners of other brands will find their own settings through the Android dialer guide by brand, and the list-dialing session itself is described on the auto dialer app page. Google's own phones are covered under dialer for Pixel.

Dialer for Xiaomi FAQ

11 questions, answered

Which dialer for Xiaomi phones works on HyperOS?

The Auto Dialer works on HyperOS and on the older MIUI, on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO handsets alike. Make it the phone app under Default apps, then allow Background autostart and set its battery saver to No restrictions.

Is The Auto Dialer a dialer for Xiaomi and Redmi phones?

Yes. The Auto Dialer becomes the default phone app on Xiaomi and Redmi phones and dials through a lead list in order using your own SIM, with a lead card, remarks and a follow-up alarm for every call.

How to enable autostart in Xiaomi?

On MIUI 14 and HyperOS, open Settings, Apps, pick the app, then App permissions and turn on Background autostart. On older MIUI, the switch sits in the Security app under Permissions and Auto-start. Labels shift a little from release to release.

How to change Google dialer in Redmi?

If your Redmi came with Google’s Phone app, replace it the same way as any default: Settings, Apps, the three-dot menu, Other settings, Default apps, then choose another phone app. Google’s app stays installed and can be chosen again later.

Do I need to turn off MIUI optimisation in developer options?

No. That switch is a developer setting and can change how other apps behave. For a dialer, the normal user settings are enough: Background autostart on, battery saver set to No restrictions, and the app locked in the recent apps screen.

How to lock recent apps in Xiaomi?

Open the recent apps screen and drag the dialer’s card downwards until a small lock shows, then let go. A locked card survives a clear-all, which matters most on older MIUI builds that free memory hard. The gesture may differ a little between MIUI and HyperOS releases.

Where are default apps in HyperOS?

Xiaomi’s own FAQ for the REDMI 17, which ships with HyperOS 3, puts them under Settings, Apps, then the three-dot icon, Other settings and Default apps. Many owners look straight under Apps and miss the menu icon. On MIUI handsets the entry can sit elsewhere under Apps.

Does the HyperOS battery saver stop a dialer from working?

It can, when the app’s own battery saver is left on its default. Open the dialer’s battery saver page and pick No restrictions. Pair it with Background autostart, because the two do different jobs: one stops HyperOS limiting the running app, the other lets it start by itself.

Do POCO phones need the same dialer settings as Redmi?

Yes. POCO and Redmi handsets both run Xiaomi’s software, HyperOS on newer models and MIUI on older ones, so Default apps, Background autostart and the per-app battery saver sit in the same places. Expect label changes between software releases rather than between the two brands.

Why do Redmi callback alarms fail after the phone restarts?

Without Background autostart, Xiaomi software may not let a closed app wake itself after a reboot, so a reminder booked for later stays silent until the app is opened. Turn the switch on under the app’s App permissions on MIUI 14 and HyperOS, or in the Security app’s Auto-start list on earlier MIUI.

Can I keep Xiaomi’s built-in dialer installed beside a business one?

Yes. Choosing another phone app under Default apps does not remove whichever dialer your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO model shipped with. Only the default changes, so you can hand calls back to the built-in app in the same HyperOS menu when the work day ends.
