Auto Dialing Meaning, Methods and the Terms Call Teams Use

Auto dialing means software places your calls from a list so you never key in a number. This page explains the word, its variants and how The Auto Dialer does it on a phone.

Auto dialing meaning

The Auto Dialer uses auto dialing in its plain sense: the phone works through a list and starts each call by itself. The idea is older than smartphones. Call centres adopted it so agents would stop losing time to keying digits, misdials and unanswered rings; the forms it now takes are compared on types of dialers. Three things define it. First, a stored list, which can be a spreadsheet, a CRM filter or a call log. Second, automatic placement of the next call. Third, a rule for what happens when nobody answers. Auto dialing does not mean a robot speaks; in most setups, including this one, a person talks on every answered call. In The Auto Dialer a session can be built from 5 sources: a saved lead filter, an uploaded file, the call log, an assigned queue, or whichever callbacks fall due that day.

Auto dialing on a mobile phone

On a mobile, auto dialing needs an app with the right to place calls. Android grants that to the default phone app, which is why an auto dialer app asks for the dialer role (brand by brand settings are in the dialer app for Android guides). The call then goes through the SIM like any other; that arrangement is called a SIM based auto dialer. The product overview is on the auto dialer home page, and the first session is walked through in how to set up auto dialer.

Auto dialing rules

Auto dialing changes how fast you can call, not whom you are allowed to call. Consent, do-not-call registers and calling-hour limits apply exactly as they do to manual calls, and some countries add rules aimed at automated dialing itself. The page on auto dialer law by country sets out the official position for five of them.

Auto dialing FAQ

11 questions, answered

What is auto dialing?

Auto dialing is calling a list of phone numbers automatically, one after another, with software placing each call. The person only speaks when a call is answered and records the result afterwards.

What is the difference between auto dial and auto dialing?

They are the same activity. "Auto dial" is usually the name of the button or setting, as in "auto dial this list", and "auto dialing" is the practice. "Auto dialer" is the tool that does it.

Does The Auto Dialer do auto dialing on a normal phone?

Yes. The Auto Dialer does auto dialing on a normal Android phone or iPhone, using the SIM in the handset. No desktop software or internet calling line is involved.

Which app is used for auto dialing a lead list?

The Auto Dialer is an app for auto dialing a lead list. It takes in Excel, CSV and JSON files or a linked Google Sheet, dials each number from your SIM and saves the status of every call.

Is auto dialing illegal?

Auto dialing is legal as a method. Rules apply to sales calls and vary by country, usually through a do-not-call register and consent requirements. Auto dialing existing customers, or someone whose enquiry is a few days old, is the normal use. This is general information, not legal advice.

How to stop auto dialing?

In a calling session, press pause or stop; The Auto Dialer shows both on every screen during a session. If you are receiving unwanted automated calls, add your number to your country’s do-not-call register and report the caller.

How does auto dialing work on a phone?

The app needs permission to place calls, which Android gives to the default phone app. Once a session starts, it hands each number to the SIM in turn, shows the lead while it rings, waits for the call to end and for your notes, pauses for the set gap, then dials the next one.

Is auto dialing faster than manual dialing?

It removes the time spent finding and typing each number and the idle pauses between calls, and it prevents misdials. How much faster depends on call length: on short calls the saving is large, on long conversations small. Estimate your own case by timing a few calls with and without typing.

Does auto dialing play a recorded message?

Not necessarily, and never in The Auto Dialer. Auto dialing only means software places the call. Whether a recording plays depends on the system: voice broadcast tools play one, while a one-at-a-time dialer connects a live caller on every answered call. Recorded-voice marketing calls need consent in several countries. This is general information, not legal advice.

Can auto dialing call international numbers?

Yes, if your SIM and plan allow international calls. The Auto Dialer handles country codes on import and when dialing, so a list mixing local and foreign numbers works. Each call costs whatever your operator charges for calls abroad, and the rules of the destination country govern it.

What is an auto dialing system in a call center?

In a call centre, auto dialing usually runs on a server linked to internet telephony lines, feeding calls to agents at desks with headsets, often in predictive mode. The idea matches a phone app, removing manual dialing, but the scale, the equipment and the rules on abandoned calls are different.
