Retry rules
Auto Redial That Calls Unanswered Numbers Again, One to Three Times
Auto redial in The Auto Dialer calls a number again when nobody picked up, for a single busy line or for every unanswered number in a list.
Auto redial meaning
The Auto Dialer treats auto redial as a rule, not a button. The rule answers three things: how many more times to try, when to try, and what counts as "answered". Most redial apps on the Play Store handle one number at a time, which is right for getting through to a busy helpline. A sales list needs something different: when 40 people out of 100 do not pick up, those 40 should be retried without anyone rebuilding the list. In a calling session, The Auto Dialer retries each unanswered number 1 to 3 times. The retry can happen right away, after a set time, or once the rest of the list has been called. A ring limit ends each unanswered attempt, so the session does not sit on a ringing phone.
Auto redial settings
| Setting | Choices | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Retries per number | 1, 2 or 3 | 1 for cold lists, 3 for people expecting your call |
| When to retry: right away | Calls again immediately | Busy tones and dropped connections |
| When to retry: after a set time | Calls again once the time has passed | People who are in a meeting or driving |
| When to retry: after the list | Retries all misses at the end | Long lists, so fresh numbers come first |
| Ring limit | How long an unanswered call rings | Keeping the session moving |
| Minimum call length | Shortest call that marks a lead done | Ignoring calls cut after a second |
| One-number redial | Your own number of tries and gap | A single busy line |
Auto redial app for Android
- Open the list or the single number you want to reach.
- Switch on redial and choose the number of retries.
- Choose when the retry should happen and set the ring limit.
- Start the session. Retries run by themselves; you only talk.
Redial is one of the settings covered in setting up the auto dialer, and the rest of the calling screen is described under auto dialer app. The same retry rules work on the auto dialer for iPhone.
Auto redial for sales follow-up
Illustration with round numbers, not a customer result.
An insurance advisor in Pune has 60 renewal calls on Monday. With retries set to 2 and "after the list", the session calls all 60 once. Say 25 do not answer. The app then calls those 25 again, and anyone still silent gets one more attempt. Customers who never connect land in the lost leads list, and each of them has already received the after-call WhatsApp message the advisor set up for outgoing calls. Nothing was retyped, and every attempt is in the history that a sales call tracking app needs.
Auto redial limits
Redialing has a cost: every attempt is a real call to a real person. Three retries is the ceiling in a list session. Repeated calls to someone who is not answering annoy them and can get a number reported as spam. Operators in India, for one, are required to act on complaint counts; the background is in auto dialer rules in India, with other countries under dialer law by country. Redial also cannot leave a voicemail or detect an answering machine. For the vocabulary around retries, see auto dialing, and for everything else the app does, the full feature list.
Auto redial FAQ
11 questions, answered
What does auto redial mean?
Auto redial means the phone calls a number again by itself when the first call was busy or not answered, so you do not have to press call each time. It stops when the call connects or when the set number of tries is used up.
How do you do automatic redial?
Install an app with auto redial, enter or pick the number, choose how many times to try and how long to wait between tries, then start. In The Auto Dialer you can do this for one number or switch it on for a whole calling list.
How to keep calling a number automatically?
Use one-number redial. Set the number of tries and the gap, and the app keeps placing the call until someone answers or the tries finish. Use it for a line you have reason to reach, such as a busy office number, not to pester someone who has declined your call.
Does The Auto Dialer have auto redial for a whole list?
Yes. The Auto Dialer has auto redial inside a calling session: a number that is not answered is called again 1 to 3 times, either straight away, after a set time or after the rest of the list.
Which auto redial app also keeps a record of each attempt?
The Auto Dialer records every attempt in the call history and the lead’s timeline, and numbers that never connect are collected in a lost leads list for a later win-back round.
Does auto redial stop when the person answers?
Yes. A connected call ends the retries for that number. You can also set a minimum call length, so a call that connects for only a second or two is not counted as done.
Is there auto redial on iPhone?
iPhone has no built-in setting that keeps redialling a number. The Auto Dialer’s iPhone app includes both one-number redial and list retries, because the iPhone build includes everything except access to the handset’s own call log.
How to auto redial on Samsung?
Samsung phones need an app for this. Install The Auto Dialer, let it become the default phone app during guided setup, and exempt it from battery optimisation so the phone does not put it to sleep. Then open the number or list, choose the tries and the gap, and start.
Can I auto redial a WhatsApp call?
Not with The Auto Dialer. Its redial places ordinary calls through the SIM, so retries go over the mobile network. WhatsApp calls do appear in the app’s call history next to SIM calls, but they are not redialled automatically.
Can auto redial get my number reported as spam?
It can if overused. Every retry rings someone who chose not to answer, and repeated calls lead some people to report a number. Keep list retries to one or two for numbers that do not know you, space them using the set-time or end-of-list option, and stop for anyone who asks.
How do I stop auto redial?
In The Auto Dialer, stop or pause the calling session from any screen, or switch the redial rule off before the next session. A one-number redial also ends by itself as soon as the call connects or the chosen number of tries has been used.
Stop redialing by hand
Set the retry rule once and let the session work through every missed number.
