Auto Dialer Not Working: Fixes for Calls That Stop or Skip
An auto dialer not working is nearly always a setting, not a fault. The Auto Dialer groups the fixes by symptom so you can find yours fast.
Auto dialer not working causes
An auto dialer that is not working usually falls into one of three symptoms: no call starts, calls stop partway through the list, or particular numbers never ring. In The Auto Dialer each symptom has a short set of causes, and almost all of them are settings on the phone or in the session rather than faults in the app. Calls that never start point to the phone role, the SIM or an empty list. A session that halts tends to be a battery manager closing the app, or a pause someone pressed and forgot. Numbers that seem skipped are often working exactly as configured: excluded numbers are kept out of all automation, duplicates are dropped at import, and a ring limit set to a few seconds can end a call before anyone reaches the phone. Working through the 3 symptoms in the order below takes a few minutes and needs no technical knowledge.
Auto dialer not working: troubleshooting table
| Step | Where | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Confirm the app holds the phone role | Settings, default apps | 1 minute |
| 2. Check the business SIM is active and selected | App settings, SIM choice | 1 minute |
| 3. Clear filters that leave the session empty | Lead filter | 1 minute |
| 4. Exempt the app from battery limits | Phone battery settings | 2 minutes |
| 5. Look for a forgotten pause | Session bar | Seconds |
| 6. Compare the ring limit with real answer times | Auto dialer settings | 1 minute |
| 7. Review excluded numbers and the Done tab | Excluded list, Done tab | 2 minutes |
| 8. Read the sync log for missing records | Sync log | 2 minutes |
Auto dialer not working at the first call
- The phone role went elsewhere. Another app took the default role, perhaps after an update. Set it back as shown in changing the Android default dialer.
- The chosen SIM cannot call. On a dual SIM phone the business SIM may be out of credit, disabled or out of signal. Pick the other SIM or fix the line.
- The set is empty. A filter such as a status plus a tag plus a list can match nobody. Clear filters one at a time until numbers appear.
- Everything is already worked. Leads finished earlier sit in the Done tab and are not in the pending queue any more.
Auto dialer not working midway through a list
- The battery manager closed it. Some brands' battery savers close apps they judge idle; brand-specific settings are in the guides for realme phones, OnePlus phones, OPPO phones running ColorOS, vivo and iQOO handsets and Motorola models.
- The session is paused. Pause works from any screen, which also makes it easy to press by accident. Look at the session bar.
- It is waiting for retries. With redial set to a set time later, the session waits for that time before calling misses again. That is the rule working, not a stall.
- The gap feels like a stop. A long pause between calls, possibly locked by your admin, can look like a freeze. Ask the admin before assuming a fault.
Auto dialer not working through every number
- Excluded numbers. Numbers on the excluded list never enter automation or backup. Remove one from that list if it was added by mistake.
- Duplicates removed at import. The same number twice in a file becomes one lead, so the count is lower than the row count.
- Assigned to someone else. Leads given or transferred to a colleague leave your queue and appear in theirs.
- Ring limit too short. If calls end before people can answer, lengthen the ring limit; the details are under retry and ring settings.
Auto dialer not working example
Made-up support case with tidy counts, to show how the checks play out.
A team leader at a car rental desk in Dubai hears that one of her 6 callers "keeps getting skipped numbers". She checks: the source spreadsheet had 100 rows, and the session dialled 88. Eight rows were repeats dropped at import, and four numbers were on the excluded list because those customers had asked not to be called. If records had been missing instead, the sync log would have shown what ran and when, with a button to sync everything again. Nothing was broken; the caller had been comparing the session with the row count in the original spreadsheet. Tidying a sheet before import is covered in how to call a list of numbers.
Auto dialer not working limits
Some problems are outside any app. Poor signal, an operator blocking the line or a plan with no outgoing calls will stop every dialer. If your list keeps being reported as spam by the people you call, look at who is on it and read telemarketing rules by country (general information, not legal advice). And if what you need is several lines dialing at once, nothing here will fix that: it is a different kind of system, explained in power dialer vs predictive dialer. For the settings a first session needs, see auto dialing on Android or how to auto dial on iPhone, and for the whole first-day checklist, how to set up auto dialer.
Auto dialer not working FAQ
11 questions, answered
Why is my phone dialer not working?
Start with the basics: signal, airplane mode and whether the SIM is active. Then check which app holds the default phone role, because a half-finished switch between dialers can leave calls with nowhere to go. A restart clears most remaining glitches.
Why is my phone auto dialing?
Unexpected calls usually come from something still set to call: a one-number redial with tries left, a calling session left paused, or a call button pressed in a pocket or by an accessory. Stop any running session and redial, and check which app holds the phone role.
Is The Auto Dialer not working, or is it my phone?
Often the phone. When The Auto Dialer is not working, the cause is typically a missing permission, a battery saver closing it in the background, or a filter that leaves no numbers to call. The checks on this page find each one in a minute or two.
Which auto dialer gives help when a session is not working?
The Auto Dialer includes searchable video guides with subtitles, an Ask AI help assistant inside the app, and a choice of basic or technical support on WhatsApp, so a stuck caller can get an answer without leaving the phone.
Why are some leads not marked as done after I talked to them?
Check the minimum call length. A call shorter than that setting does not mark the lead done, which is meant to ignore calls that drop after a second. Lower it if your genuine calls are often very short.
Why is my phone not dialing out?
Check the line before the app: signal, airplane mode, call credit and whether the selected SIM is switched on. On a dual SIM phone, calls may be going to the SIM that cannot call. If tapping the call button does nothing at all, confirm which app holds the default phone role.
Why does the auto dialer stop when the screen turns off?
A battery saver is usually closing the app once the display sleeps. Give it unrestricted battery use and, on brands with their own controls, allow autostart or background activity and lock it in recent apps. The brand guides linked above name the exact menus for each maker.
Phone app keeps stopping: what can I do?
Restart the phone, then make sure the app is up to date, since updates arrive inside the app itself. If it still closes, note what you were doing at that moment and send it with your phone model to tech support on WhatsApp, one of the two choices in the app’s support menu.
Why are my reminders not showing up on my phone?
Check that alarm and notification permissions were granted during setup, that the phone’s battery manager is not putting the app to sleep, and that the reminder still appears as pending in the Reminders tab. Then book one five minutes ahead, lock the phone and wait for it.
Why are calls not showing in the call log?
On a team account, the phone may simply not have synced yet. Open the app so its full sync runs, then read the sync log, which shows what ran and when and offers retry and sync everything again. Also check the number is not excluded and the SIM is allowed to back up.
Why do calls end before anyone can answer?
The ring limit is probably too short. It cuts unanswered calls after the time you set, and at only a few seconds people cannot reach the phone. Lengthen it in the auto dialer settings, then watch a few calls to confirm they ring long enough to be picked up.
Still stuck after these checks?
Send the phone model and what you see on screen, and tech support will look at it with you.
