Dialer for Telemarketing: Which Line, Which Consent, and Which Registered Route
A dialer for telemarketing is judged less by its features than by the line it calls from and the records behind each number. The Auto Dialer sets out both, including why its own SIM-based calling is not meant for cold campaigns.
This is general information, not legal advice. Coverage is deepest for the United States, United Kingdom and India; check every market you call before a campaign starts.
Dialer for telemarketing meaning
Telemarketing, in the words of the US Federal Communications Commission rules, is "the initiation of a telephone call or message for the purpose of encouraging the purchase or rental of, or investment in, property, goods, or services" (47 CFR 64.1200(f)(13), read 4 October 2026). A dialer used for that purpose sits inside the strictest layer of calling law in every market The Auto Dialer has reviewed. Three questions decide whether a setup is fit for it. First, the line: some countries say which numbers telemarketing may come from, and India is the clearest case, with promotional calls placed on the 140 series and ordinary 10-digit numbers kept out of telemarketing. Second, the list: whether each number has been checked against the national register and the caller's own opt-out list. Third, the record: whether you can show the consent or relationship that made the call allowed.

Dialer for telemarketing on a personal mobile number
A SIM-based dialer such as The Auto Dialer shows the number of the SIM in the caller's hand. For warm calls that is a strength: customers recognise it and ring back. For cold telemarketing it works against you in four ways.
- It may simply be the wrong line. In India, TRAI's published FAQ answers no when asked whether a mobile connection can carry telemarketing.
- Complaints land on one person. Strangers who object report the number, and that number belongs to your employee.
- Operator plans are written for people. A consumer plan may not expect thousands of outbound calls; read its terms before a campaign.
- Register access is a business process. In the US, the FCC expects callers to purchase the registry's numbers from the official administrator, which is not something a phone app does for you. The full US picture is on the auto dialer USA page.
Mobile SIMs and internet trunks are set against each other on the VoIP auto dialer page, and India's specific position under TRAI's auto dialer rules.
Auto dialer for telemarketing consent records
Whatever dialer you use, keep the reason you were allowed to call next to each number. In The Auto Dialer that means a lead source tag (Facebook, website, referral, walk-in or your own), a custom field for the consent wording or date, and a dated timeline of every call and remark. Someone who says "stop calling" gets a "Do not call" status in your custom pipeline and goes on the excluded numbers list, which keeps them out of the app's automation. Country detail on registers is on the do not call list by country page, and US consent wording is unpacked under autodialer TCPA definition.
Dialer for telemarketing example
A made-up scenario in round figures; no customer's results are shown.
A marketing manager at a home insulation company in Toronto has two lists: 10,000 bought numbers and 600 people who asked for a quote through the website in the last two months. The 600 have an inquiry relationship that Canada recognises for six months, so her four sales staff can work them from their phones with The Auto Dialer, about 150 each. The 10,000 are a telemarketing campaign: they need checking against the National Do Not Call List, a dedicated calling platform, and an agency or team set up for it. Splitting the lists this way keeps the warm work fast and the cold work on a line built for it.
Dialer for telemarketing limits
The Auto Dialer does not scrub lists against national registers, does not dial several numbers per agent, and does not play recorded messages. If your business is outbound telemarketing to people who have never heard of you, buy a platform made for it and use this app, if at all, for the follow-up calls once a prospect has replied. The wider legal picture sits on the auto dialer laws by country page, and first-contact calling technique under auto dialer for cold calling. Election campaigns are their own category, covered on the political dialer page.
Dialer for telemarketing FAQ
11 questions, answered
What are telemarketing calls?
Telemarketing calls are calls made to sell or promote something. The US rules define telemarketing as starting a call to encourage the purchase or rental of, or investment in, property, goods or services. Service calls about something a customer already bought are usually treated differently, but the line varies by country.
Which dialer for telemarketing campaigns to new prospects should I choose?
Choose a platform that calls from a registered or dedicated business line, checks numbers against the national register for each country, and keeps consent and opt-out records. For cold campaigns that is a telemarketing platform, not The Auto Dialer, which is built for calling your own customers and enquiries.
Is The Auto Dialer a dialer for telemarketing?
Not for cold telemarketing. The Auto Dialer places calls from a phone’s own SIM, which is the right line for following up enquiries and existing customers and the wrong one for promotional calls to strangers. In India it would also be the wrong line under TRAI rules.
Is an auto dialer for telemarketing legal?
The tool is legal in the countries this site covers. Telemarketing calls are what the law regulates: register checks, consent or a qualifying business relationship, calling hours, caller identification and, in India, which number series the call comes from.
What does a telemarketing dialer system include?
A dedicated system usually has campaign lists, a dialing mode such as power or predictive, register scrubbing, an internal do-not-call list, disposition codes, call recording and reports. The Auto Dialer covers lists, one-at-a-time dialing, outcomes and team reports, but does not scrub against national registers.
What time can telemarketers call?
It depends where the person called is. US federal window: 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Canada: 9:00 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. weekdays, 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. weekends. Australia: 9 am until 8 pm weekdays, 9 am until 5 pm Saturday, never Sunday. PECR sets no UK calling window. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do telemarketers have to say who they are?
In the US, FCC rules require the caller’s name, the business name and a telephone number or address where the business can be reached. In the UK, the ICO expects callers to say who is calling and to display a number. Identification rules were not checked for Canada or Australia. This is general information, not legal advice.
What is the Telemarketing Sales Rule?
It is the US Federal Trade Commission’s rule for telemarketing, 16 CFR Part 310, which sits beside the FCC’s TCPA rules. It words the business relationship windows as 540 days after a purchase and 90 days after an inquiry, and the FTC puts its maximum fine at $53,088 per violation, a figure the agency indexes to inflation. This is general information, not legal advice.
Is telemarketing legal in India?
Only through the registered route. Under TRAI’s regulations, commercial calls and messages have to come from registered headers or special number series, promotions go on the 140 series, and TRAI’s own FAQ excludes mobile numbers from telemarketing. A phone-SIM dialer is therefore suited only to enquiry and customer calls in India’s case. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can a business relationship allow calls to registered numbers?
In some countries. US rules exempt an established business relationship: a purchase within 18 months or an inquiry within 3 months. Canada allows 18 months from a purchase and 6 from an inquiry. The UK has no such exemption for live calls to TPS numbers; only specific consent works. This is general information, not legal advice.
How do I keep an internal do-not-call list in a dialer app?
Create a “Do not call” status in your pipeline and, in the same moment, add the number to excluded numbers so automations skip it, or block it outright. Note the date and the person’s words in the remark. Before importing any new campaign file, compare it against that status so a returning number is not called again.
